The short answer is yes.

Every garden room needs a solid foundation to support the weight of the building, keep it level and ensure it performs well for years to come. The right foundation also helps protect the structure from movement caused by changing ground conditions.

There are several ways to build foundations for a garden room, and the best option depends on the size of the building, the ground conditions and how it’s being constructed.

At Little Green Rooms, every garden room is installed on ground screws. They’re strong, precise and far less disruptive than traditional concrete foundations, making them the ideal solution for the way we build.

Types of garden room foundations…

Concrete slabs

Concrete slabs have long been the traditional choice for garden rooms. They create a solid base but require excavation, groundworks and time for the concrete to cure before construction can begin.

They’re effective, but they can be disruptive to gardens and have a higher environmental impact due to the amount of concrete required.

Concrete plinths

Concrete plinths use individual reinforced blocks to support the building rather than one continuous slab.

They use less concrete than a full slab but still require ground preparation, suitable soil conditions and heavy lifting equipment to install.

Ground screws

Ground screws are large galvanised steel screws driven into the ground using specialist equipment. Once installed, the garden room is fixed directly to them, creating a stable, long-lasting foundation.

Because there’s no excavation or concrete, installation is quicker, cleaner and construction can begin straight away.

Why we use ground screws

Every Little Green Room is built on ground screws because they:

  • Minimise disruption to your garden.
  • Avoid the use of concrete.
  • Create a strong, stable foundation.
  • Allow us to begin building immediately.
  • Work well on a wide range of sites.

Before every installation, we’ll carry out a site survey to make sure they’re the right solution for your garden.
